This program offers a unique opportunity for high school students to conduct authentic STEM research under university faculty mentorship, culminating in a presentation at a scientific symposium.
The AEOP High School Internship STEM Research Program at UNC Charlotte offers rising high school juniors and seniors an intensive, in-person summer research experience. Students are paired with faculty mentors to design experiments, collect and analyze data, and present their findings to a scientific audience. This hands-on program aims to cultivate lab skills, enhance critical thinking, and provide insight into STEM careers, particularly in engineering and environmental science. Participants are expected to complete 220-300 hours of STEM research work, including pre- and post-internship tasks. The program culminates with students presenting their research at the Junior Science & Humanities Symposium.
Students are expected to be on campus from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM daily, engaging in STEM research under the guidance of their faculty mentors.
This program is ideal for ambitious high school rising juniors and seniors who are U.S. permanent residents with a strong interest in STEM research and a desire for hands-on laboratory experience.
