The camp utilizes the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime Set, a STEAM learning tool that combines building, easy-to-use hardware, and an intuitive coding language to engage campers in critical thinking and complex problem-solving.
In this Advanced Robotics with LEGO Spike camp, middle school students aged 11-13 will dive into the exciting world of robotics by building and programming with the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime Set. Campers will engage in playful learning activities to think critically and solve complex problems, regardless of their learning level. The curriculum combines colorful LEGO building elements, easy-to-use hardware, and an intuitive drag-and-drop coding language based on Scratch, with the option to explore text-based coding with Python. Through hands-on challenges, students will design, build, and program functional robots, tackling tasks such as building driving vehicles, exploring weather data, detecting moving objects, and comparing the efficiency of robotic arms. The camp aims to develop problem-solving, logical thinking, and an understanding of how motors, sensors, and code work together to make robots move, fostering essential STEAM and 21st-century skills.
A typical day includes general check-in, an all-camp science demonstration, multiple S.T.E.A.M rotations, snack and refresh breaks, lunch/recess, and outdoor team and skill-building activities, concluding with clean-up and camper pickup.
This camp is best for middle school students aged 11-13 who enjoy building and are ready to explore how robotics, sensors, and coding work together, and who are interested in critical thinking and complex problem-solving.
