About this camp

Robotics 201 is a hands-on STEM camp for middle schoolers (rising grades 6-8) designed in partnership with the William States Lee College of Engineering at UNC Charlotte. Campers will delve into the exciting world of robotics, exploring how robots are designed, built, and programmed. Using LEGO® Education SPIKE™ kits, students will engage in a process of imagination to invention, constructing custom robots and testing their ideas. The curriculum emphasizes core principles of robot design, assembly, and control, including the use of motors, gears, structures, and sensors to enable robots to react to their environment. Campers will gain practical coding experience, writing and modifying code to control robot movement and behaviors, utilizing logic, sequencing, and basic programming concepts to complete challenges. The program fosters problem-solving skills through experimentation, iteration, and teamwork, encouraging students to troubleshoot and refine their robot designs and programs like real engineers.
