About this camp

The Central Piedmont Community College - Honeywell STEM Prep is a four-week academic enrichment program designed for underrepresented rising 11th and 12th graders, as well as graduating 12th graders, who are interested in pursuing associate degrees in health sciences, engineering disciplines, or Information Technology. This summer program, held on Central Piedmont's Central Campus, provides non-credit, college-level courses with project-based experiences in mathematics and a chosen STEM field (science, technology, or engineering). Participants gain increased familiarity with current practices in STEM fields, illustrate preparedness for a successful transition into college-level STEM studies, and explore careers in their targeted STEM focus area. The program also includes a personalized math enrichment plan to address foundational gaps and prepare students for future mathematics studies.

Students engage in hands-on activities, such as designing experiments to analyze DNA in science, developing small applications using an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) in technology, and designing, building, and analyzing projects with 3-D printers and CAD software in engineering. The program aims to boost diversity among students in STEM programs at Central Piedmont and increase the number of students seeking degrees or certifications in high-demand STEM careers.
