Planet Pioneers camp offers rising 1st and 2nd graders an immersive journey through the cosmos, fostering an authentic understanding of our solar system, distant exoplanets, and the tools that bring the universe closer to home. Campers will build astronomy skills and utilize various tools to observe the sky, learning to navigate the cosmos and identify celestial bodies. They will delve into the intricacies of our solar system, exploring the formation of rings and objects within it, and embark on exoplanet excursions to gain insights into worlds beyond our own. Aspiring engineers will design and build models of alien spaceships and Mars rovers, combining creativity with scientific principles. The camp includes visits to Discovery Place Science's state-of-the-art planetarium, opportunities to create new planets, and experiments exploring the features of other moons. Campers will also design and build alien spaceships, and explore Discovery Place's traveling exhibitions, comparing space travel to deep-sea exploration.
A typical day includes morning deep dives into the weekly theme, followed by lunch and social recess, museum exploration in the afternoon, and concluding with engineering challenges and wrap-up activities.
